Calling all young budding artists!
This year, Newark Book Festival is celebrating Landscapes in Literature and is hosting a special competition to see who can create the best secret garden.
In Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic story of The Secret Garden, Mary Lennox discovers a hidden garden whilst she is exploring the grounds at her Uncles house. Mary and her friends spend their days playing in the garden, getting to know the wildlife and helping the garden to grow.
On an A4 piece of paper, draw your own secret garden. What would it look like? What would be there for you to discover? It can be big or small, it can be filled with lots of colourful plants and flowers or it could be a gateway into one of you favourite storybooks, it could even be set on a different planet or in a zoo. We are looking for lots of fun ideas so you can let your imagination run wild.
There are two age groups (Under 6 and 7-13 years) and the winners will be awarded a beautiful prize at the Festival weekend (15th July) and their artwork will be displayed at The Secret Garden, 6 Stodman Street, Newark from Friday 6th July (competition entrants) to Saturday 21st July (Competition winners).
