We thought it was time to return to a favourite. Nottinghamshire born author, Alan Sillitoe, lived an interesting life, working in factories from the age of 14. He eventually joined the air force and served as a radio operator. He lived in Majorca where he met poet, Robert Graves, who encouraged him to write about his hometown. This resulted in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning being published in 1958. The story expresses the disillusionment of post-war Britain and the lack of opportunities for the working class.
