Community Projects

Syrian Family Arts Project

We’re really excited to be partnering with NCVS, Homestart, Newark and Sherwood District Council and Taylor Made Arts to host a series of lead-in workshops with the Syrian Community in Newark and Sherwood, exploring traditional stories and memories. Thank you to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. Keep an eye on our social media for more information about this fantastic project! Find us on Facebook and Twitter.

Newark Creates

In 2021 as part of our work with Newark’s Cultural Consortium, we worked with poet Leanne Moden to create poems and a trail based on our heritage buildings. Why not download the leaflet and poems and take a wander around Newark to see if you can find and be inspired by our beautiful heritage.

Newark Creates is funded by Historic England’s high Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme and is being delivered by the Newark Cultural Consortium.

Competition: Capturing the Life of the Festival

Our 2022 competition is in memory of our wonderful Book Festival Board Member, Alison Loydall who sadly passed away earlier this year. Alison’s amazing smile and personality was infectious. She would be found darting around the festival venues taking amazing pictures and capturing the ‘essence of the festival’. She will be sadly missed by all.

Our Alison Loydall Photography competition is open to everyone. We would like you send us your pictures which capture the life of Newark Book Festival. This could be from the summer festival, schools events or any pop up event.

Closing date 10th October 2022. One entry per person. Two age categories – Under 16 and 16+.

The winners will be announced at the Christmas Event in Newark where a selection of the photographs will be displayed.
