Literary-themed stalls full of delights – with the chance to meet local authors, organisations, museums, booksellers, publishers, crafty artisans, and more!

10am - 4pm // Woodland crafts and family activities

If you love being crafty, making stuff, and getting your hands dirty, you won’t want to miss the woodland crafts activity stall! Try your hand at a quiz, or take a spotters’ sheet into the woods, or try crafts like wooden name badges, dream catchers, decorated stones, and woodland wands! You can also learn how to spot butterflies in your garden, make your yard wildlife friendly, and how you can help bats and bumbles bees too!

Enter the calm sanctuary of St Mary’s Church for their Exhibition on Robin Hood, as part of the Edwinstowe Book Festival!

10am - 4pm // Open Doors - Creative Community Connections
Arts and heritage are life-changing. Open Doors aims to inspire everyone across Newark and Sherwood through free creative activities between 2023 and 2026. During the Festival, members of Open Doors will be offering free taster sessions of disc golf. This sport is accessible, promotes a healthy outdoor lifestyle and is becoming increasingly popular in parks across the UK. Come along and challenge family and friends to see who has the best shot in this fun new sport!’

10.30am - 11.30am // Poetry and Stories with Chris White
Edwinstowe Library

Join poet and illustrator Chris White for an adventure like no other! Whether it’s vegetarian vampires, cats that say woof, or ducks writing poems, Chris’ funny poems and stories that will have you chuckling all over your face, and back again! Come find out about his universe of peculiar animals and he might even draw you a hamster – if you’re lucky! You’ll also get to create your own crazy cartoon character too!

Suitable for children aged 5-9 (and their grown-ups too!)

No need to book.

Books will be available for sale.

11am - 12:30pm & 2pm - 3:30pm // Herb Walks with Hannah Sylvester
Meet in the RSPB Visitor Centre

Join Hannah Sylvester, Medical Herbalist and Nature Educator, for an enlightening, interactive wander around the major oak route - meeting the medicinal plants and trees along the way, learning how they are used for medicine and food, and finding out about their fascinating history and folklore.

Hannah will share samples brought along, and there's a free e-handout for all that attend, showing the plants identified along the route.

The route has step-free access, and is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs.

Book tickets via the RSPB Visitors’ Centre or pop over on the day.

11am - 11.35am & 1pm  -1.35pm // WilderNests with HandMade Theatre
RSPB Sherwood Forest - Amphitheatre

WilderNests is a unique production lovingly created by HandMade Theatre for children and families. Meet Daisy, a budding young song writer, as she learns to embrace nature and get inspired. Follow her journey of discovery as she makes new friends, singing and dancing with the woodland creatures. This show features HandMade Theatre’s signature mix of original music, dynamic storytelling, colourful characters and beautiful puppets.

WilderNests embraces the company’s love of the outdoors and invites you to connect with the wild.

Suitable for ages 4+ (and their grown-ups too)

12noon - 1.30pm // Scrawl Crawl with Emily Cartwright
Meet in the RSPB Visitor Centre

Join illustrator and artist Emily Cartwright for a walk around Sherwood Forest, drawing, sketching, and doodling the natural world.

You’ll learn some cool techniques for capturing nature on the page, and get out in the fresh air too! This is a walking tour, and requires some walking and standing.

The workshop is suitable for ages 11+ The route has step-free access, and is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. Book tickets via the RSPB Visitors’ Centre or pop over on the day.
