About the Authors

Essie Fox is the bestselling author of historical gothic novels inspired by her rural Herefordshire roots. After studying English Literature at Sheffield University, she worked in publishing and design before turning to writing full-time. Her debut, The Somnambulist, was shortlisted for the National Book Awards and featured on Channel 4’s TV Book Club. Her novels include The Last Days of Leda Grey, named The Times Historical Book of the Month, and The Fascination, a Sunday Times top ten bestseller. Essie also runs the blog The Virtual Victorian and has lectured on the era at the V&A and the National Gallery.
Laura Shepherd-Robinson is an award-winning historical crime novelist known for her richly detailed plots set in Georgian London. After studying politics at the University of Bristol and the LSE, she spent 20 years in the political world before turning to fiction. Her debut novel, Blood & Sugar, won the Historical Writers’ Association Debut Crown and was Waterstones Thriller of the Month. Her follow-up, Daughters of Night, explored murder and corruption in 18th-century London. Her latest novel, The Square of Sevens (2023), follows a fortune-teller uncovering family secrets. Laura holds an MA in Creative Writing and lives in London.
