About the Author

Michael Somerville graduated with a degree in History from Cambridge University, and in 2017, after a career in IT Consultancy, was awarded a doctorate in Military History by the University of Buckingham for his thesis on how the American Civil War influenced the Victorian British Army, published as Bull Run to Boer War. He is a trustee of the American Civil War Round Table UK, for which he has produced several presentations and articles. His father served in Italy with the 2/5th Sherwood Foresters in the Second World War. He lives in Wimbledon with his wife.
